Our work aims at dis­sect­ing gen­er­al prin­ci­ples of host cell biol­o­gy and immunol­o­gy that are exploit­ed and hijacked by HIV‑1 to cause dis­ease. To this end we apply advanced virol­o­gy, cell biol­o­gy and mol­e­c­u­lar biol­o­gy tech­niques to cell sys­tems with phys­i­o­log­i­cal rel­e­vance rang­ing from indi­vid­ual pri­ma­ry cell types to organoid and organ­otyp­ic cell cul­tures to in vivo models.
